Response assessment in radiation therapy

A principal challenge in radiation oncology is the person to person variation in response to treatment. In addressing this challenge, the Haston lab has identified pre clinical models which also demonstrate this variation in response to radiation, while the Jirasek lab has developed a novel method, using Raman spectroscopy, for measuring the response.  Within MPDAC these groups will collaborate to investigate whether Raman profiles can be used to predict the response to therapy in pre clinical models.

This team will work towards establishing a comprehensive understanding of possible correlations of Raman spectroscopic signatures of radiation tissue response with established genetic markers of radiosensitivity. Growth of this project will involve applications to stereotactic delivery of radiation therapy in collaboration with Dr. Hyde (Clinical Physics BCCA- CSI).
