Development of partial seed breast implant brachytherapy

Dr. Hilts and Dr. Batchelar (Clinical Physics BCCA- CSI) are working to develop Partial Breast Seed Implant (PBSI) into a standard of care for breast cancer through advanced imaging and robust, quantitative processes. The team at CSI is one of the only in the world to offer PBSI, a highly desirable one day treatment for breast cancer. Ongoing research aims to improve PBSI by developing quantitative techniques to enable widespread implementation. As imaging has been identified as a key technological weakness of PBSI, they are working in collaboration with Robarts Imaging in London Ontario with the specific aim to develop 3D ultrasound (3DUS) for planning and image guidance of PBSI.
